Gary is at a crossroads in his life: his job is going nowhere, his wife, Dora, drives him crazy, and he passed his thirtieth birthday four years ago. Director Jake Paltrow, a veteran TV and film scriptwriter, has chosen the quirky relationship drama as his milieu for a debut feature and cast older sister Gwyneth as Dora, the female half of the film‘s rapidly staling couple. Martin Freeman plays Gary, a failed musician and emotionally absent boyfriend slumming in the jingle racket to make ends meet. Then the kohl–eyed, white–tuxedoed beauty played by Penélope Cruz begins visiting Gary in his dreams, bearing soothing tidings of well–being. If only Gary could be this happy in his waking life, maybe he‘ll just have to get used to the compromise.
